Orlando, FL — May 06, 2016 — Soaps are essential for personal hygiene, and they have been used for centuries to keep the skin clean and fresh. Since soaps leave the skin clean and fresh, it is easy to assume that their ingredients are also good for human health. Unfortunately, it seems that this is not always the case.
Experts reveal the toxic soap ingredients to avoid. Commercially-produced soaps nowadays contain chemicals that are severely damaging to the human body. There are even those with toxins that can potentially cause death.
One of the most common and harmful soap ingredients is triclosan. This ingredient is classified as a pesticide that contains antibacterial properties. It is used in making soaps because it can eliminate the dangerous bacteria from the skin.
Unfortunately, triclosan’s antibacterial action contributes to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance. Triclosan is also an endocrine disruptor, which could cause dangerous fluctuations in the hormone levels. It has been proven to influence the female sex hormone estrogen and is believed to dramatically increase one’s risk of breast cancer.
There is another ingredient called dioxane, which is a synthetic derivative of coconut. The bad news is dioxane is a carcinogenic chemical and is toxic to the liver, kidneys, and brain.
Consumers should also avoid soaps with sodium laurel sulfate (SLS), which is believed to be one of the most toxic soap ingredients added to shower gels and soaps. When it bonds with other soap ingredients, it becomes a carcinogenic nitrosamine.
One of the things that make SLS dangerous is that it easily permeates the skin and cause skin irritation. It could also cause organ toxicity, trigger hormonal disruptions, and increase one’s risk of mood disorders.
Other toxic ingredients in soap that consumers should avoid are diethanolamine (DEA), formaldehyde, parabens, and PEG-6. Fragrances, which are used in almost all bar soaps, could also be dangerous. Labels often contain the word “fragrance”, but the truth is that it could be a combination of thousands of chemicals.
Dr. Heidi Kong, cancer researcher and genome researcher Dr. Julie Segre discuss the dangers of antibacterial skin products in the article they made called Skin Microbiome: Looking Back To Move Forward.
According to research, the human body absorbs up to 60 percent of what is being placed or applied on the skin. This makes using soaps with natural ingredients extremely beneficial.
Turmeric is one of the excellent ingredients for soaps. This ancient, medicinal spice is believed to inhibit melanin and may potentially be useful for hyperpigmentation.
Turmeric soap can be made by melting a bar of natural soap, adding turmeric powder, and pouring the mixture back to the mold (http://amazon.com/Turmeric-Curcumin-BioPerine-Pepper-Extract/dp/B00VSVKJ8I).
