Dr. Joseph Hunstad and Dr. Bill Kortesis of Hunstad Kortesis Plastic Surgery + MedSpa are excited to offer Kybellaâ„¢, the first and only FDA-approved injectable to improve the appearance of submental fat or “double chin”.
Charlotte, NC — August 20, 2015 - Dr. Joseph Hunstad and Dr. Bill Kortesis, leading experts on cosmetic plastic surgeries and partners of Hunstad Kortesis Plastic Surgery + MedSpa, a plastic surgery practice and medical spa located in Charlotte, North Carolina, are proud to announce that they are now offering the newest cosmetic injectable, Kybellaâ„¢ for the treatment of “double chins”. Kybellaâ„¢ is the first and only FDA-approved injectable that improves the profile of moderate to severe fat below the chin, also known as submental fat or fullness.
According to a 2014 survey conducted by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, 68% of people said they’re bothered by submental fullness. Submental fullness, sometimes referred to as “double chin”, is a common yet undertreated facial aesthetic condition that can impact a broad range of adults, including both women and men. Causes may include aging, genetics and weight gain.
Kybellaâ„¢ is a nonsurgical treatment that utilizes deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring substance found in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath your chin (submental fat or “double chin”), Kybellaâ„¢ causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat. Kybellaâ„¢ is administered through a series of injections spaced at least one month apart. Many patients treated with Kybellaâ„¢ experience visible contouring of their chin profile in 2 to 4 treatments. Some people require up to 6 treatments in order to achieve the desired results. The treatment, similar to a Botox® injection, is simple, requires no numbing or sedation and is typically completed in minutes. Once the chin profile has improved, another treatment may never be necessary. The most common side effects of Kybellaâ„¢ include swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, redness, and areas of hardness in the treatment area.
